Introducing

Cliff Haworth

06-05-06

Today sees the final fan of the week for this season but if you know of any supporters who haven’t been featured then please get in touch.

On Monday it was the turn of Adam Smith, and today it’s his Grandad Cliff Haworth.
Cliff is just the ‘wrong side’ of sixty although he looks so young that it’ll be many more years before the bus conductors let him on without showing I.D. He’s been watching the Robins for a mammoth 35 years and can be found on the adopted Pop-Side here at the Interlink at every game, rain or shine. He has a lovely and long-suffering ‘grass widow’ wife Jean, two daughters, Susan and Lynne, and four grand children, David, Michelle, Mathew and Adam.
Adam of course is the one who is blessed with the brains in that particular clutch of children.
Cliff’s favourite current player is John Eastham and his favourite former player is the enigmatic Matt Derbyshire.
Top ground is the Interlink Express Stadium, a good choice, which is more that can be said of his favourite ‘other team’ Burnley! (We’ll forgive him that one fault).
His best memories are of Burnley winning the 1st Division championship and Jimmy McIlroy playing on with a broken arm in a sling. A far cry from today’s Premier League when some players would be substituted if they broke a finger nail!
The best game that Cliff’s seen was the Burnley v Manchester City game at Maine Road when a Clarets win saw them take the title in 1960.
Hobbies include holidays (don’t forget to take your scarf Cliff), walking, watching grandson Matt play for Great Harwood Rovers, and of course, supporting the Robins.
Particular dislikes include Premiership managers and players contesting every decision which was supposed to be clamped down on this season although any change has been very minimal.
Keep up the good work Cliff and I don’t suppose that there’s any chance of bringing the rest of the grand children down on match days is there?
Salute today’s fan of the week and long-term Great Harwood F.C./Great Harwood Town supporter…….

Cliff Haworth
