Introducing

Darren Rogers

10-11-03

Seventeen year old Darren is in his first season at the Showground and if he continues to play as he’s doing at the moment it will be his last! He’s been absolutely outstanding and his performance against Nantwich last week was nigh on faultless. His favoured position is as a striker although he’s happy to play anywhere as long as he’s in the starting eleven. Most of his appearances this term have been as a winger or wing back and the quality of his crosses are not only appreciated by the Harwood forwards, but would put many Premier League players to shame.
Darren lives in Great Harwood with his Mum Julia, whose face belongs on the cover of Cosmopolitan Magazine, Dad Mark (or is it George Clooney-they look so alike!), and beautiful sister Louise. Darren also has a ‘bird’-his words not mine-Rachel, who has men walking into lamp posts when she glides down the street.
You won’t be too surprised to learn that he was part of the Youth Academy at Blackburn Rovers and has also represented Lancashire Schoolboys. The best moment of his career so far was playing on Ewood Park-and scoring just for good measure. Worst moments were losing a College Cup Final in extra time at Deepdale and when he was released from the Rovers. Looking at the present Ewood forward line, I think that they released the wrong player!! Darren holds no grudge and the Blues are still his favourite team with Souness his favourite former player. Damien Duff is the player that Darren enjoys watching at the moment and the two of them have many similarities in the way they play.
Hobbies outside of football are volleyball and just like all the other young players, ‘socialising’. He likes to relax by watching T.V. but enjoys playing football more than anything else. There’s only one dislike which he listed but I can’t say what it is at the risk of upsetting anybody-oh, all right then, it’s Burnley!
He’s sure to go on and play at a much higher level than the N.W.C.L but let’s hope that we see him at the Showground for a few years at least.
