DAVE SHARPLES

If there are any youngsters reading this who would like to make a career in professional football, then I suggest that you watch Dave Sharples in action and then weep! The guy is pure class and when you consider how high up the footballing ladder he climbed-many rungs below the Premier League-then it might just dawn on you how good you have to be to get to the top.
His first touch, his passing, his awareness are top drawer and you’ll do well to see a better midfield player in the NWCFL. The only one to come near him is Nigel Gleghorn of Nantwich who last year gave one of the best midfield performances seen on this ground for many years, and he HAD played in the old 1st Division.
Last season was a disaster for Harwood but the re-signing of Dave gave the club a massive boost.
Dave works as a metre operative and is married to Tracy. The couple have two daughters, Rebecca and Hannah and they live in the Lammack area of Blackburn. He declined to give his age so he must be fairly ancient, and his memory is also going because he can’t remember how many season’s that he’s spent altogether at the club, in this, his third spell. Previous clubs include, Blackburn Rovers, Morecambe, Lancaster City, Accrington Stanley, Clitheroe, Darwen and Chorley, not to mention the ‘Cav’, Top Hat Club, Angels, Pips, Mecca, etc., etc.
The best ground that Dave has played on is Ewood Park and career highlights are winning the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Division titles with Clitheroe, as well as winning the ATS Trophy. As you can see from that little lot, Dave Sharples is a winner and hopefully he’ll help some of our younger players to become winners as well.
Nice to have you back Dave, let’s hope that you’re back to stay for many years.
