Fifty three year-old Derek is one of Harwood’s longest serving supporters and has seen more ups and downs than almost anyone else during his 25 plus years at the Showground.
Today’s man of the moment lives in Great Harwood with his lovely wife Mavis, has a son Jonathon, now living in London, and a beautiful daughter Lucy, who still lives in Great Harwood and works at Boots the chemist, so if anyone needs some paracetamols, mention this article for a 10% discount! Derek can be found standing on the Pop-Side and his favourite players this season are Neil Kennedy, “who always gives 110% and ex-hero Matt Derbyshire who was a “breath of fresh air’. Favourite former player, who of course is also a current player, is Pete Smith who “was a match winner”.
His best moment in football was when he managed his school side to a League and Cup double. Worst moments are whenever the Robins lose. Hobbies outside football include snooker and cricket and he also likes to dabble with photography and computing. Derek’s particular dislikes are when he sees players not giving 100% especially when he’s paid to watch them, and incompetent match officials. I’m sure that he’s been impressed with the efforts of the players at Harwood this season, and also the standard of refereeing by the huge majority of officials this term.
Favourite other team is Manchester United and Nelson’s Victoria Park is the one which has impressed him most on his travels this season.
Keep up the good work Derek and let’s hope that we see you on the Pop-Side for the next 25 years.
