Introducing
James Coonan
(25-10-03)
Today we introduce one of our ‘Veterans’ James Coonan.
Despite being just 23 years old, ‘Cooney’ has been at the club for over 3 years, making him one of our longest serving players. Standing at 5’ 10” and weighing in at 11st., he is Mr. Versatility, able to play anywhere along the back line or in midfield. Hard but fair in the tackle and good in the air, he has made the left back spot his own this term. His superb performances have been instrumental in Harwood’s great 21 game unbeaten run. A bad injury kept him out of action for part of last season and it was no coincidence that the defence started to leak plenty of goals during that period.
His previous clubs are Bamber Bridge and Preston North End, the two places where his ‘highs’ and ‘lows’ have occurred. Being made player of the year and captain at Bridge was the highlight of Cooney’s career so far, and being released by P.N.E. was the low point.
His favourite other team is Liverpool and Zidane is his favourite player. Outside of football, he enjoys off-road motorsport and like all the other players, ‘socialising’. (Is that the same as boozing with the mates James?) Favourite former player is the incomparable Paul Gascoigne. Deepdale is the best ground that he’s played on , and his likes are listed as winning and dislikes losing at footy. Luckily for today’s hero, he’s part of a team who all hate losing, so, in the league at least, things couldn’t be going better. James lives in Whalley with mum Susan, who looks far too young to have a 23 year old son (must have been a child bride!), dad Peter, a real Bond look-alike, and gorgeous sisters Lisa and Jenny who both look as though they’re Miss World contestants.
Let’s hope that we see Cooney here for many seasons to come and hopefully he’ll enjoy lots of success along with his young team mates.
Take a bow today’s man of the moment,
James Coonan
