JOHN FENTON –programme editor
AGE-18 till I die.
HEIGHT-A smidgeon under six foot.
WEIGHT-Nine and a half stones wet through.
LOOKS LIKE-A cross between Richard Gere and Mel Gibson.
O.K. stop the laughing, it’s called poetic licence.
I’ve been supporting the Robins for about fifteen years, and the only reason that I started was that I used to empty the post boxes here so I felt obliged to get down to the Showground. At that time, the Robins were in the NWCL Second Division but under the guidance of Eric Whalley, the club really started to go places.
Over the years I’ve tried to help out at the ground as much as possible and do a fair amount of painting and gardening. Three seasons ago I was collared to do the matchday programme, but I’d no idea that it would take so long to produce. Every spare minute that I get, I’m on the computer.
I have three favourite football teams, the Robins, Rovers and Boston United although with my involvement at the Showground, my trips to Lincolnshire are few and far between.
I work for Royal Mail as a driver but I also end up doing quite a lot of walking, covering for absent and lazy Posties!
I enjoy watching most sports but sadly I didn’t get to see any of the Ladies beach Volleyball at the Olympics, which I was a bit gutted about. I’d also like to play more sport but I never have time.
I’ve got an allotment near my home in Lower Darwen, another thing that seemed a good idea at the time! If I miss going down for a few days, it’s like a jungle. It’s also known for being an old man’s hobby, but let me tell you, after a couple of hours down there, I can hardly straighten up/
My favourite all time Harwood player would have to be Pete Smith although the two strikers we have here at the moment, John Eastham and Paul Mashiter, are tremendous players. The best ground which I’ve visited is Rushden and Diamonds and I particularly like QPR.
Well, I mustn’t go on so tadah for now and see you all at the next game.
