Robins’ legend Graham Lightbown scored his last goal for the club in a 1-1 home draw with Castleton Gabriels but two more legends soon took his place. John Eastham enjoyed an injury-free season and took Second Division defences to pieces with his magical left foot and superb heading prowess. The latter stages of the campaign saw Matt Derbyshire destroy all before him and Harwood ended it with a goal-scoring spree hitting the net 17 times in six games. Considering the attacking options we enjoyed with the brilliant Paul Mashiter and Chris Heslop along with the afore-mentioned legends it was quite a surprise that the Robins ‘only’ scored 81 goals in all competitions. Bacup Borough were crowned Champions with Stone Dominoes also promoted both sides hitting over 90 League goals while Chadderton finished bottom.
Prescott Cables won the 1st Division title and the League Cup was won by Mossley. Stone Dominoes playing excellent football throughout the campaign won the 2nd Division Trophy.
