Introducing
This week’s star has unfortunately just ‘ditched’ us to join up once again with ex-Harwood manager Dennis Underwood at Nelson. Never mind, we’ll feature him anyway as we’re not a club that holds grudges.
STEVE PICKUP

AGE- 25
WEIGHT- 12 st. 7 lbs.
HEIGHT- 5’ 10”
PREVIOUS CLUBS- Burnley, Bolton wanderers, Accrington Stanley, Rossendale united.
SEASONS AT GREAT HARWOOD- Four
Steve lives with his parents June and Derek who would like him to get a place of his own, especially Derek who sees his beer supply disappear very quickly once Steve has got home from football!
His favourite other team is Manchester United and his favourite ground is Old Trafford. Career highlights include winning the Lancashire Cup against Manchester City and signing for Harwood. His ‘likes’ are listed as John Hughes, Jamie Smith and drinking-not necessarily in that order! Dislikes include drilling and training, especially running, and Steve Wilkes-join the queue Steve!!
All the very best Steve and let’s hope that you have a long and successful career with Nelson, you’ve been an institution round these parts, sorry, I mean that you should have been IN an institution!
Before we sign off Steve, you’ll always be remembered by all true Harwood supporters for the goal which you scored against Rossendale United about three years ago. Anyone who saw it will never forget it.
Remember Van Basten’s volley in the European Championships a few years ago? Well Steve’s goal was even better. A corner was cleared to the corner of the box and as it dropped from the night sky, Steve hit the kind of volley that EVERY player in the world dreams of, and the ball rocketed into the top corner of the net.
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES GREAT HARWOOD TOWN F.C. LEGEND……….
